Fighting Fur
Echo grumbles under her breath as she tries to shove the long fur of her tail into a protective, watertight sleeve; or at least, it will be watertight once she manages to connect it to the joint at the base of her tail. Keeping all that fur loose will only hinder her where she’s going, deep below the surface of the ocean. Apparently, there’s been radio transmissions coming from down there… and the grey Amicabot doesn’t have to be fully caught up on what’s been going on since the eruption to know it’s important to investigate something like that.
Her large, fluffy ears are flattened ever so slightly by the glass helmet Echo had decided to put on first, not enough to make her truly uncomfortable, but definitely enough to annoy her. It’s not like she, or any other Amicabots, for that matter, need to breathe; but while she’s tested how the pale blue joints of her main body hold up against water quite a few times before now, to great success, she has a very strong suspicion she really wasn’t built for aquatic conditions. Better not to take risks when it comes to her head.
With one last grunt of effort, the grey Amicabot finally manages to pull the sleeve most of the way over her tail; bare minimum, pretty much all of Echo’s longer fur is now concealed. What a pain… at least this way, she also won’t have to deal with detangling it after getting it submerged for who knows how long. Gritting her teeth, she twists herself around for a better, albeit awkward, look at the base of her tail; easier to complete the seal if she can actually see what she’s doing.
Echo carefully tugs the sleeve up to her tail joint, and while she does, her mind begins to wander. If she has to go through all this effort just to stand a chance in the depths, what business does she have going down there at all? What if the deep ocean conditions treat her differently than the controlled tests in tubs and ponds had? Hearing a click as the sleeve’s seal is formed, Echo untwists her torso with a deep sigh, resting her arms across her knees. Whatever. No point in thinking too hard about it. She may not have been built for this exact task… but it’s still one that needs to be done.
