Life in the Sea
Lara didn’t expect the sea to be this cold. Yes, she had known that the ocean was cooler than a shallow pond or pool of water. But reaching the depths of the sea made her realize how unprepared she truly was. She had made some preparations with her suit and installing some new modules to combat the temperatures and pressure, but she definitely had underestimated the feeling of being down here.
Lara shook her head and tried to focus on the wonders around her. The second she had jumped into the water she had been met with so many new experiences and environments. Seeing these new creatures, plants and landscape truly made her happy. She felt like a grand explorer venturing into unknown and maybe even dangerous lands, even if the small sea life was anything but threatening. From all the animals she encountered, she found the small squishy ones with the many tentacles the most fascinating. Every time their many arms moved around she wondered, how they didn’t get all tangled up. But any time she wanted to take a closer look, the dashed away or found a rock to hide under.
She currently was staring at the tip of a small tentacle belonging to a Cephaloplead peaking out from a hole. It felt frustrating not being able to study these creatures more. But she also couldn’t fault them for being shy or afraid. The whole sea was so gigantic, just existing here must feel daunting. Lara could already feel the constant pressure of all the water around her and she had only been here for not even an hour. She let the small creature be and focused on the other sights around her.
Apparently, some of the plant like critters were animals as well. Anemones and corals, as they were called. They looked like colorful trees; some hard, some soft. Lara would have called anyone crazy who would have insisted, that these were animals. But the more she observed them, the more she saw the subtle movements, the reactions to the environment and even one of them catching a smaller animal. It opened her eyes how different the world underwater was and how much more there was to learn. While she couldn’t imagine living in the sea, she definitely wanted to return down here. Not just to see the sea life floating all around her and hiding between the rocks and sand. But also to observe the more diverse environment and unexpected little wonders. With the ocean being as big as it was, she was certain that there must be so much more to explore, keeping all the Amicabots busy for probably centuries.
