the language of computers, understood by none
To say the least, Blorbo had a minimal understanding about the inner workings and the learning AI that Amicabots were based on. Blorbo did understand all things space and things like hydrogens, oxygen and the crushing weight of the average black hole. But none of that applied to creating Amicabots.
Blorbo didn’t really get why they had to create these new people themselves, but thinking about it, it made sense. There weren’t any working factors down here on Aerthir-32 anymore. That was sad.
The space station that Blorbo was conceptualized on was still in orbit, the factory up there probably could still work with some maintenance, but they didn’t have any easy way to reach it. Blorbo couldn’t exactly fly, even if they missed floating around in Zero-G.
They shifted a bit, their ribbons twirling and rotating, touching any surface in the room Blorbo was situated in. They were with their other space-created bots, they all always kept in touch. A lot of them were interested in the mass building project and practically dragged everyone along, Blorbo wasn’t that interested in creating but joined anyway, since this was one of the few events where they were all together.
Blorbo had one of those laptops in front of them, a weakly powered mobile piece of technology that was miniscule in comparison to the super computers at the station. Though, perhaps simple was all they needed right now.
They were going through... python code? Blorbo wasn’t sure. It was all very confusing. Quantum physics and pi was nicer than this.
(Internally, Blorbo wondered about the ethics of copying and pasting an existing Amicabot’s code into a new body. How would the new individual develop based on their environmental and social factors? That was far more interesting.)
The group then decided to do a progress check, just to see what everyone was up to. While everyone was presenting, Blorbo discretely closed the tab of the no-internet Dinosaur Game, mourning the loss of their high score. When it was time for Blorbo to present, they simply showed off the whole four lines of code they managed to cook up.
Everyone still congratulated Blorbo for doing that much despite the difficulty of the task. Blorbo didn’t really get why, so they shrugged, ribbons following the motion.
Coding was surely not going to be their thing, but at the very least Blorbo could enjoy the company of their companions.
