THE GREAT RESTFUL ONE
The Great Restful One is a supervolcano, named by the predecessors. Early on in the predecessors’ history, this gigantic volcano served as the foundation of predecessor culture and innovation. It had beautiful hot springs, wide expanses of land, and its heat served as a source of geothermal energy. While initially the volcano was the center of predecessor society, the predecessors eventually expanded across the planet. They learned nuclear power and robotics, but always relied on The Great Restful One for stability. The Great Restful One was given its name for its historical peaceful nature, a lack of volcanic activity over centuries led the predecessors to believe it was a truly placid, safe foundation for their society. Some worshiped it, while others dedicated their lives to studying it. Nobody could have predicted that it would erupt, one day.
THE APOCALYPSE
The eruption was unexpected and catastrophic. Filling the air with ash and damaging the planet’s climate, the world in which the predecessors lived effectively ended. Throughout this tragedy, many Amicabots were powered down or experienced symptoms that lead to shutting down—overheating or electromagnetic waves strong enough to knock out their power. The Great Restful One woke up, and with it, it wiped away the vast majority of life on the planet, including the predecessors. Native flora and fauna suffered, with many species also going extinct due to the lack of clean, breathable air. It cannot be understated that this eruption caused irreparable damage and tragedy.
THE SILENT DECADES
This period of history was known as such due to the lack of activity going on in the world. After the apocalypse, the area surrounding The Great Restful One became an ash-coasted wasteland. Areas further away from the disaster hadn’t been hit as hard. Most Amicabots remained shut down throughout this period; Amicabots left outside typically became tarnished with rust or overgrown with plant life. The few Amicabots that did wake up during this time were met with a bleak, empty planet, and lived with the horror of a fresh, recent apocalypse. It took about twenty years for the planet to return to a more habitable, stable state; the temperatures eventually leveled out and plants began to grow and flourish. The animals that did survive the initial apocalyptic event began to recover in numbers. The damage that happened to the predecessors' planet could never be undone, but a new, more hopeful event was on the horizon.
