About Building

Most Amicabots who you may meet are most likely built by a Predecessor, a factory built by Predecessors, or in another way during that era. However, after the Great Restful One's eruption, not many Amicabots have been built since... until now!

After digilently researching the blueprints and files made to create themselves, many Amicabots have been learning how to put together new Amicabots - both in putting together an all-new body out of spare parts that they've found, and coding a new Artificial Intelligence for the Amicabot to be born from.

Most Amicabot communities have recieved resources on how to learn to build an Amicabot for yourself, which has caused many Amicabots to excitedly put together new friends, family, and neighbors!

What are Buildables?

A Buildable is an Amicabot that has been built by another Amicabot, or multiple other Amicabots. They are similar to Breedables within other species, but they are not inherently building Amicabots' "children"—some Amicabots consider the Amicabots they've built to be their siblings, friends, or just neighbors, but parental relations are the most common of all. Some Amicabots with childlike AI have even built their own parents!

Build-Your-Own (BYO)

A Build-Your-Own (BYO) is a special kind of Make-Your-Own (MYO) slot that allows you to create another Amicabot that your own Amicabot(s) have built themselves! The BYO Amicabot will randomly inherit traits that their creators have, along with colors and themes.

When creating a BYO, you will be given random traits that the creators have, and be allowed to create a new Amicabot from them! Amicabots created from BYO slots must resemble all of the creators involved in the creation process in some way - for example, an Amicabot with earthy colors who specializes in gardening typically cannot be used as a creator for a BYO to build a bright-neon Amicabot who specializes in movie stunts. However, an Amicabot with lighter springtime colors and a flower shop theme would definitely be possible!

There are 3 types of BYOs: 1-Creator BYOs, 2-Creator BYOs, and 3/4-Creator BYOs. These determine how many creators are involved in creating the new Amicabot—one, two, or three/four!

Questions & Answers

How do I get a BYO?

BYOs will be routinely available in events, and are permanently in Zip's Station for gears!

How do I activate my BYO?

Once you've obtained one of the BYO slot items, you need to submit a claim with the BYO attached in the Add-Ons section (highlighted in the image below) of the claim as well as the participating Amicabot Masterlist entry/entries.
(Below is an example image of a claim; click the image to view it by itself)

Once you submit that claim, assuming there are no problems, it's essentially up to the one processing the claim to roll the traits. Once that is done, the claim will be approved with a comment that has a link to a(n) BYO slot with the results!

Do the creators in my BYO have to be in love? Can my Amicabots who are just friends build a new Amicabot together?

Since Amicabots are robotic, they do not have an inherent concept of parenting or blood family - those concepts have been introduced to them from the Predecessors, though, and some Amicabots choose to parent others, or consider each other blood related! However, this also means that building an Amicabot isn't seen in the same was that having a child together is seen by Predecessors - it's more like working on an engineering project together for the duration of the building process.

This also means it's entirely normal for Amicabots with platonic relations to build a new Amicabot together!

I want to make a BYO with one of my friend's Amicabots! Is that allowed? How do I do that?

It is! In order to show that a friend or another user has permission to use your Amicabot as a creator in one of their BYOs, you must paste this at the top of the profile text in your Amicabot's on-site profile:

"[user] has permission to use this Amicabot in a buildable with [AMI-###], [AMI-###], and [AMI-###]!"

Replace [user] with your friend/buildable partner's username, and [AMI-###] with any other Amicabots who are being used as creators within the buildable (Edit the text as you need).
Once your buildable partner's slot is uploaded, you're free to delete this from their profile if you wish!

What if I don't want my Amicabot to be used in a buildable?

Then you don't have to! Without the consent text outlined in the above question, nobody else can ever use your Amicabot in any BYOs.

Why do built Amicabots resemble the creator(s) in traits/color/theme?

Amicabots typically build other Amicabots with similar traits to them because they have a good idea of how their own internal traits work better than others - for example, an Amicabot with wings would most likely have a little more lived experience and knowledge on how wing joints work for flight. This makes it easier for Amicabots to build others with the same traits.

Most Amicabots build others with similar themes because they wish to pass on their own knowledge to the built bot, helping them get their footing in the world easier. This is easier than if they, for example, tried coding an Amicabot who knows how to unicycle without knowing how to do so themselves at all.

I opened a BYO, but now I'm uninspired/I don't feel attached to the pairing anymore. What can I do?

Unused BYOs can be traded to other users, or in the future, submitted to the shelter.

BYO Traits

Traits are rolled randomly for each BYO once it is "opened." All Default traits, however, are usable for any BYO, regardless of if any creator has them or not.

Trait chances for BYOs are fairly similar, but they do depend on what BYO type is being rolled—either multiple creator BYO or a single creator BYO!

2- & 3/4-Creator BYO

All the traits (except for certain Corrupted traits, see below) from each creator have a chance to be passed down.
Chances of a trait being passed down are increased if at least two creators share the trait (except for traits of Corrupted rarity).

Upgraded: 60% chance to be given, upped to 80% if shared
Enhanced: 40% chance to be given, upped to 60% if shared
Premium: 30% chance to be given, upped to 40% if shared
Vehicular: 20% chance to be given, upped to 30% if shared
Corrupted: 10% chance to be given regardless of how many creators having it or not*
Seasonal: 20% chance to be given, upped to 50% if at least two creators have it

* Linked Bodies & Transformation cannot be obtained with standard Buildables, regardless if any creator has the trait(s) or not

1-Creator BYO

1-creator BYOs are a little different - since there is only one Amicabot working on them, they typically end up learning about and researching things that they normally wouldn't if they were working with someone else, in order to ensure that the Amicabot they are creating is not a complete replica of themselves.

1-creator BYOs are first rolled on the multiple creator table for all traits the original creator has. Then, the table below is rolled for additional traits that the creator does not.

2 additional traits - 40%
3 additional traits - 30%
4 additional traits - 20%
5 additional traits - 10%

These are then each rolled randomly for the rarity of each applied trait.

Upgraded - 30%
Enhanced - 25%
Premium - 20%
Vehicular - 10%
Corrupted - 5%
Seasonal - 10%

The trait then chosen is rolled randomly between all traits of that rarity that the original creator does not have, with all traits being weighted the same, with Linked Bodies & Transformation being the only traits that cannot be rolled.

The slot will also come with a few additional colors that the singular creator does not have that can also be used in the built Amicabot to help encourage variation in the design, along with a few suggested themes based around the creator's original theme (for example, a clown Amicabot may have suggested themes of a cotton candy Amicabot, liontamer Amicabot, or something similar. These are not required to be used, and are merely options for themes that can be incorporated more heavily into the design if the designer so chooses.)

Questions & Answers

My BYO got the High-Tech Ability or High-Tech Artifact trait! Does this have to be the same as one of the creator's?

It does not! High-Tech Ability and/or High-Tech Artifact should be related to one of the creators' themes, but it can be something completely different from what any of the original creators' abilities/artifacts are.

I don't like a trait/trait combo my BYO got! Can I remove them? Do I have to use it?

When uploading your BYO, you can remove traits by using/adding Heavy Duty Cutters in the Add-Ons section, and mention what traits you are removing in the Comments section. You will need 1 Heavy Duty Cutters for each trait removed. (Ex. if you're removing 3 traits, you will need to attach 3 cutters.)

Can I add other traits on to my BYO with trait items when I submit it?

Yes. Just like a regular MYO slot, you may attach trait items to your BYO when submitting it to give the BYO more traits. However, as mentioned earlier, Default traits may be added on for free.
