NAUTICAVA SPECIES

Nauticava (plural & singular) are an ocean-dwelling sapient species that reside on Aerthir-32. Previously undiscovered by Amicabots and their Predecessors, Nauticava managed to survive the apocalyptic eruption by dwelling deep in the trenches of the ocean. Nauticava are a closed species, meaning that you cannot create one without a MYO ("make your own") slot. Nauticava may be obtained through adoptables or as event prizes.

Nauticava are invertebrates descended from cephalopods. They bear a resemblance to squids, octopi, and similar creatures — every Nauticava has a crest on their head with around eight tentacles. These tentacles are prehensile and can function as limbs, making eating sea life easy while multitasking with their four other limbs. Nauticava have paw-like hands with three to five webbed fingers and bird-like feet with three to five webbed toes.

As Nauticava are cephalopod-like beings, they lack mammalian features like fur. Nauticava cannot have heads full of hair, but their tentacle crests may be styled similarly to hair. Certain tentacle styles can be as simple as holding tentacles in place to resemble specific hairdos, or as complex as tying them with ribbons or scrunches to mimic things like braids or ponytails.

Nauticava have beaks that manifest only on the upper jaw, with the bottom jaw made of a rigid cartilage structure covered by flesh. Both their beaks and bottom jaws naturally have sharp, serrated teeth within. Nauticava beaks must be attached to the upper “lip” and extend to the mouth, and cannot be covered in flesh or appear to be a nose or nose horn.

Nauticava’s bodies can vary a bit, but they notably have larger, muscular forearms and hands and smaller, agile feet. 

Nauticava must be bipedal; they cannot be quadropedal/"feral" and walk on four legs.

Additionally, they have a variety of natural variations in hands, feet, and tails! Unlike Amicabots, their traits are not categorized by rarities like Default, Upgraded, and so on... instead, they have two known rarities: Standard & Mutation. Whether more trait rarities will be available has yet to be discovered!

Society & Culture

Unlike Amicabots and the Predecessors that created them, Nauticava do not use complex nuclear technology. Instead, Nauticava society is powered geothermally, with energy derived from heat vents. They do not have the technology to build robots or complex AI, but they have been known to take in sunken Amicabots and AI probes to examine them and figure out how they work. Being highly intelligent beings, Nauticava tend to learn quickly! Nauticava can regrow lost limbs naturally, but it takes time & some are unable to do so after extensive injury; in the event that a Nauticava needs it, prosthetics and mobility aids are accessible and available — though prosthetics are generally not robotic, given that they'd break easily underwater.

They reside within the water itself as well as hosting complex societies within deep sea cave systems with air pockets; for a Nauticava, venturing out into the ocean is the same thing as going outside for fun, business, errands, exploration, or other such activities.

Nauticava have varied lifespans of 100-200 years. Young Nauticava spend the first year of their lives completely underwater, relying strictly on their gills as their lungs take time to develop after hatching. There are special underwater nurseries dedicated to caring for Nauticava hatchlings, as well as temporary homes that parent Nauticava may move into while they raise their infant offspring during these fragile times.

Additionally, Nauticava are highly creative beings that value the arts, and have been known to show off unique displays with the ink they create.

Thanks to assistive technology created by Amicabots and Nauticava in collaboration, Nauticava can walk the surface of Aerthir-32. Due to their aquatic nature, they must remain hydrated regularly and take saltwater baths frequently (typically every 1-3 days) to stay in good health.

Gender & Sexuality

Nauticava may identify with any gender or sexuality. While there are females and males, there is no clear sexual dimorphism, and society is not based around gender hierarchy. Nauticava may be nonbinary, transgender, and/or intersex — these identities are as common as cisgender identities are. Similarly, same-gender attraction and relationships are equally seen as normal and accepted as such. Bigotry is not accepted within Nauticava culture.

Regardless of sex, some Nauticava may have breast-like shaping on the chest, but they simply serve as cushioning as they lack mammary glands and have no nipples. Nauticava may also opt out of having this cushioning and choose to have ‘top surgery’ for aesthetic or comfort reasons, if they wish.
