{ Oxidize } Objectively Interesting

Oxidize sighed quietly, paws sifting through the debris in front of him. He was still freshly awoken- still figuring out what had happened. Nothing was familiar in this home except the walls, but it felt cold now- unfriendly. It was scary, to be somewhere that he knew was home, yet feel more lost than ever.

Until he found just the smallest hint of life. Between cracking floorboards, nestled up against a dampened wall, there were leaves. They were wilting, but seemingly too stubborn to give up. Somehow, he felt like he was in a similar situation. Oxy stepped closer, crouching down to examine the sprout more closely. To his surprise, there was a flower half-crushed under a fallen book. It didn't seem as though it'd make it much longer there, so he moved the book, and gently took it into his paws.

As delicately as possible, he plucked the petals from it and held them against his chest. Life persisted, and he would hold them close until they turned back into earth within his grip. As long as his own core lived on- as long as he could move, these petals would be a sign to keep moving. He could find a new home- somewhere soft and comforting. New entirely, untouched by the memories of life that still clung to these empty walls.

Oxidize sighed softly, standing again and looking around the room. He spotted a tattered messenger bag that had once belonged to someone he loved. Though the edges were frayed, it was intact. He turned to pick up the book that had crushed his flower, a medium sized hardcover that had long-since lost the cover’s detail. Opening it, he gently laid the petals between a few pages, closing it again to hopefully crush them down into something easier to preserve. He stepped to grab the messenger bag, slipping the book into the front pocket before slinging the strap over his shoulder.

With a final look around, and a pat to the full pocket, Oxidize said goodbye to his home.
